Inventions
Even though he was not as schooled as many of his peers he possessed an incredibly great mind both politically and scientifically. He is credited for inventing swim fins at the age of 11, bifocal glasses, the Armonica and the Franklin stove.
Although he did not invent electricity he is credited for the many discoveries he made about electricity. For instance, the fact that electricity is fluid. His invention which developed from his famous kite experiment was actually that of a lightning rod. The lightning rod helped to protect buildings and ships from lightning strikes during storms. He also created the first map of the gulfstream. This idea stemmed from his many journeys across the “Western Ocean” (Atlantic) during his lifetime. He noticed travel time was reduced when coming back to the colonies whereas the trip over would take longer which is what triggered his thoughts on the concept.
